Frequently asked questions
If your question is not here, send it by email. We add answers to this page as they come up.
Eligibility
Can I join if I am not SDA?
No. Ojakgyo is only for members of the SDA Church and people preparing for baptism. At signup you consent to the processing of your faith information, and your profile lists your church and conference. If another member reports that someone does not appear to be SDA, the operator looks into it.
I have not been baptized yet. Can I join?
Yes. Choose Preparing for baptism under baptism status and you can pass review without a certificate. The baptism badge, however, requires a baptism certificate or membership letter, and members who filter for baptized only may not see you.
Verification
Which documents are accepted?
For baptism, one of: baptism certificate, church membership letter or transfer letter. For identity, a copy of a government-issued ID (national ID card, driver's license or passport). Certificates of employment and graduation or enrollment are optional and earn the Job verified and Education verified badges. Images and PDFs are accepted.
How is my ID handled?
Please mask any part that is not needed for the check, such as the last digits of a national ID number. The operator only confirms that the name and date of birth match your profile, and the image file is deleted within 3 days of the decision. After that, only text records such as the result and decision date remain.
Privacy and visibility
Who can see my legal name and contact details?
No one, by default. Your card and detail page show your nickname only. After you are connected, you press Share contact in the conversation and only that one person sees them. The operator can see your legal name to process verification, and that access is recorded in the audit log.
What is the difference between visibility settings?
There are three. Public: every approved member can see you. Limited: only people you have sent a request to and people you are connected with can see you, and you do not appear in the Discover list. Hidden: no one except existing connections can see you. You can change it any time from My profile and it applies immediately.
Using Ojakgyo
How do requests work?
Press Send request at the bottom of a profile and write a message of at least 20 characters. You can send up to 3 a day, and unanswered requests expire automatically after 7 days. When the other person accepts, a connection is created and a conversation opens. If you both send requests, you are connected right away. Decline reasons are never shown to the other person.
Does it cost anything?
Right now, signing up, browsing, sending requests and messaging are all free. If we introduce paid features, we will announce them before they start and ask for your consent. We never charge retroactively for features you already used for free.
Can I join from outside Korea?
Yes. SDA members living abroad are welcome. You set your country and region on your profile and can choose your division (NAD, SSD, SPD and others) instead of a Korean conference. The interface is available in Korean and English, and Discover can be filtered by country.
Safety and your account
What if someone makes me uncomfortable?
Use the More menu on their profile or in the conversation to report or block them. Blocking quietly ends any pending request or connection and hides you from each other. Reports are reviewed by the operator and handled with a warning, suspension or termination, and the reported person is never told who reported them. If anyone asks for money or threatens you, please report right away.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
When you delete your account from Settings, your account, profile, photos, documents and contact details are deleted without delay. Exceptions are access logs kept for 3 months as required by law, and minimal records to prevent abuse (an email hash and the reason for any sanction, kept for 1 year). The details are in the privacy policy.
How is the compatibility score calculated?
It is a fixed set of rules, not an AI or a black box. We check whether the other person meets the preferences you set (age range, location, baptized only, diet, Sabbath practice, marital history, education) and whether you share things like the same conference, similar Sabbath practice, similar faith background or Sahmyook alumni status. Each item has a weight and the total is converted to 100. The detail page shows exactly which items match and which do not.
Questions answered?
Your profile takes about 15 minutes, and nothing is visible to anyone until you submit.
