Safety Guide

Effective Sep 20, 2026 · Version 2026-09-20

Ojakgyo runs without staff in the loop. Verification and privacy-by-default reduce risk, but your safety when meeting in person is in your hands. Please read and follow this guide.

This English version is provided for reference. If the two versions differ in meaning, the Korean version prevails.

1.Before you meet

  • Use in-app messaging only at first. Share contact details when you have talked enough and feel ready. If the other person pushes to move fast, that itself is a signal.
  • Check their verification badges. If baptism or ID is not verified, it is fine to ask why.
  • Church name and conference can be checked through mutual acquaintances. The SDA community is small enough that this is not hard.
  • Watch whether the profile and the conversation match. If age, occupation or marital history keep shifting, report it.
  • One video call lets you confirm that the photos match the person.

2.The first meeting

  • Meet in daylight, in a busy public place. A cafe or restaurant works well; avoid their home or car.
  • Tell family or a friend who you are meeting, when and where, and check in afterwards.
  • Arrange your own transport. It is fine to decline a ride or an offer to take you home the first time.
  • No alcohol. If you left your drink unattended, order a new one.
  • If you feel uncomfortable, you can leave without explaining why.
  • Do not show valuables or your ID.

3.Requests for money

If anyone asks for money, gift cards, bank details, investment, a loan or a guarantee for any reason, do not comply and report immediately. The more convincing the story—an emergency, hospital bills, a plane ticket, business capital, mission support—the more careful you should be. The Ojakgyo operator will never ask a member for a personal transfer.

4.Personal information and photos

  • Never send your home address, workplace address, ID, bank account or passwords.
  • Do not send private photos. If asked, decline and report if needed.
  • Do not screenshot or share another member's profile, photos or messages outside the Service. You receive the same protection.
  • If you linked a social account, review what is public there. Social links are shown only to connected members.

5.Using your church community

When a relationship becomes serious, tell your pastor or a trusted elder and seek their counsel. If you have mutual acquaintances at the other person's church, you can check naturally. Within the SDA community, this kind of confirmation is a strong safeguard.

6.Reporting and blocking

  • Use the More menu on a profile or in a conversation to Report or Block.
  • Blocking quietly ends any pending request or connection and hides your profiles from each other. The other person is not told.
  • Choose a reason—fake profile, does not seem SDA, harassment, money or scam, appears married or attached, other—and describe what happened.
  • Reports are reviewed by the operator and handled with a warning, suspension or termination. The reporter is never revealed.
  • For urgent threats or crimes, contact the police first (112 in Korea), then let us know at [email protected].

7.Emergency contacts (Korea)

  • Police 112
  • Women's Emergency Hotline 1366 (24 hours, violence and stalking)
  • Cybercrime report ecrm.police.go.kr · 182
  • Ojakgyo operator [email protected] · 070-4769-0213

Members living outside Korea should use their local emergency numbers.
